Pre- & Post-Care Instructions

for Sensitive Skin

What To Expect

  • To prepare your skin and optimise results:

    4 Weeks Before Treatment

    • Avoid sun exposure, sunbeds, and fake tan.

    • Begin using broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 daily on the treatment area.

    7 Days Before

    • Discontinue use of:

      • Retinoids (retinol, tretinoin)

      • AHAs/BHAs (glycolic, salicylic acids)

      • Vitamin C or other active exfoliants

    • Avoid waxing, laser hair removal, or peels on the treatment area.

    3 Days Before

    Avoid:

    • Alcohol

    • Anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, aspirin) unless prescribed

    • Harsh skincare or exfoliation

    On the Day of Treatment

    • Arrive with clean, product-free skin (no makeup, creams, deodorant, or SPF on the area).

    • If you are prone to cold sores and treating around the mouth, antiviral prophylaxis may be recommended.

    • Let us know if:

      • You’ve started any new medications

      • You’ve experienced recent sun exposure

      • You’ve had recent skin treatments or illness

  • Your skin may feel sensitive or slightly warm - this is a normal response.

    Immediately After

    • Mild redness, warmth, or swelling may occur - expect this to resolve within 24–72 hours.

    • Apply cold compresses (wrapped in a clean cloth) if needed.

Skincare in the First 5–7 Days

    • Use only gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and hydrating moisturisers.

    • Avoid all active skincare ingredients (retinoids, acids, scrubs, Vitamin C).

    • Avoid makeup for 24 hours if possible; mineral makeup is safer if needed.

    What to Expect

    • Pigmentation may darken temporarily before flaking off naturally (a “peppering” effect).

    • Redness or flushing may improve gradually over several days.

    • Treated vessels may darken and fade slowly.

    Sun Protection is Essential

    • Apply SPF 30-50+ daily, even on cloudy days.

    • Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment.

    Lifestyle Considerations

    • Avoid excessive heat: no hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or intense exercise for 48 hours.

    • Avoid alcohol and spicy foods if treating redness/rosacea.

Call the clinic if you experience:

    1. Blistering, intense swelling, or prolonged redness

    2. Signs of infection (pus, severe heat, or pain)
